The way Christmas had always worked for me was that I would spend Christmas eve with one of my parents and then go to the other parents' house late that night and wake up and spend Christmas day with that parent. So since this year it was my mom's turn to host Christmas eve we decided to have a redneck christmas party. Complete with tube sock stockings and ugly sweaters. After spending a few hours at mom's and getting beat at Battle of the Sexes by the girls, it was time to leave mom's house.
Now, even though it was my dad's turn to host Christmas eve, he decided to take a different approach this year seeing how all of his kids are growing up. With one step-son married, one son engaged and one step-son that had his son with him for Christmas, my dad knew that we couldn't do the traditional Christmas that we always had. Everybody just had too much going on and too many houses to visit. So, we all just met there at about 10 p.m. christmas eve and opened presents and hung out.
Finally, at around 11 it was time to go to sam's house to get some sleep and prepare for a chaotic day. Everybody was awake and ready to open presents by 8 a.m. After about an hour of opening presents and eating breakfast, it was off to grandpa Benites' house for a Mexican lunch. After spending a few hours there with family, it was time to return to sam's to prepare for Christmas dinner in which not only were the missionaries attending, but so was my mom and step-dad. Even though the missionaries didn't show up, we still had an amazing time and enjoyed every minute of it.
This Christmas was definitely hectic and it will be even more interesting next year when we wake up Christmas morning in our own place together as a married couple.
