Developing a "hardy personality."

08 May 2011

Weird title right? Some would think I am talking about my sister's new last name but its different.

[Sorry Liss, this post isnt about you. heehe]

As the semester is nearing a close I have been really enjoying the last few chapters of my text book. A lot of what we are learning now is coping mechanisms and how to “move on from stress.” Today’s assignment  was about developing a hardy personality. So, excuse me for a second as I savor in the education enlighten of my online assignment.

Assignment: Identify and describe the 3 factors that make up a perception of the world that can be called a “hardy perception”? Identify and describe the traits of a "hardy personality"?

The “hardy perception” is a term that is used to describe when you have a perception of the world that is collectively sound. In order to develop said perception one of the very first things we need to do is identify that life will never be stress free. There will always be things in our life that don’t go as planned or that come about very abruptly. The book describes that; “ You will repeatedly encounter all kinds of problems and challenges, many of which will test you in unforeseen ways.”  The second thing is that you must also do is embrace and comprehend that change is inevitable. Instead of trying to swim against the current of the river you need to learn how to glide through the water. A lot of being able to adapt to change is being able to use your resources  quickly and being prepared. The third and final trait of a hardy personality is to be able to continually keep things in “perspective.” The word perspective is defined as, “a particular evaluation of something, measured assessment of a situation.” There is good and bad in everything alike, virtue and vice. And finally digesting that through all the bad that can or may happen life will go on.

I think that for myself this is something that I too can learn. I need to be able to adjust to change quickly and be like a chameleon. I need to keep things in perspective and work hard to have a “hardy personality.”

"Life isnt about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."
